Montana must support its current production of electricity from coal-fired generating plants and must allow for the development of new generating units.

The Montana Board of Environmental Review (BER) is considering the adoption of rules that have been recently amended again by the Montana Department of Environmental Quality.  The vote by the BER will likely occur on Wednesday, October 11, 2006 during a scheduled teleconference.

Many Montanans have been encouraging the Montana BER to adopt rules similar to the federal Clean Air Mercury Rule.  The BER and the DEQ have been listening!  While Montana still insists on going above and beyond the federal rules, it appears as though it is moving in the right direction.  CONGRATULATIONS!  YOU ARE BEING HEARD!

Please encourage the Board of Environmental to adopt reasonable and competitive mercury rules.
